CONWAY, S.C. – The Saint Joseph's softball team opened the Chanticleer Showdown with a 1-1 record on Friday as the Hawks opened the day with a 5-2 victory over UAlbany, before falling in the nightcap to host Coastal Carolina, 6-1.
How It Happened - Game One
• The Hawks jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-run single by
Payton Baxter that scored
Kayla Tauber and
Meghan Sinkus.
• Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 4-0 on a two-run home run by
Kaelin Cash.
• UAlbany got a run back in the bottom of the fifth onn a RBI single.
• Cash connected on her second home run of the game, this time a solo shot, in the top of the fifth to make it 5-1.
• The Great Danes scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hawks held them off the board from there to secure the win.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Cash was 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.
• Baxter was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
• Sinkus was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Emily Siler picked up the victory as she allowed two runs and struck out five over seven innings.
How It Happened - Game Two
• Coastal Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double.
• The Hawks tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fifth as
Kayla Tauber scored on a RBI single by Baxter.
• Coastal Carolina plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth and held St. Joe's off the scoreboard in the seventh for the 6-1 win.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Cash was 2-for-3 with a walk.
• Sinkus was 2-for-4.
• Baxter was 1-4 with a RBI.
•
Taylor Trowbridge moved to 0-2 on the season as the SJU starter allowed four earned runs over 5.2 innings, while striking out one.
