#12 Men’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Providence, 19-6

PHILADELPHIA – Trailing 3-0 in the early stages, Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse scored 19 of the next 22 of the match for a comfortable 19-6 win at Sweeney Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
#12 St. Joe's moves to 3-0 on the year, Providence falling to 2-3 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Providence got the better of the Hawks in the early stages, capitalizing off of Hawk turnovers to grab a 3-0 lead with 7:23 in the first.
  • The Hawks responded through way of Carter Page, opening the scoring under two minutes later. With 3:19 remaining in the first quarter, the Hawks tied it up after two goals in a minute, Stephen Dwyer playing scorer after providing on the opener.
  • Just a minute and a half into the second, the Hawks took their first lead of the game through Levi Anderson. Mac McLaughlin tallied his first goal of the season before Providence ended the 5-0 run with a goal.
  • SJU closed out the quarter with the final two goals, Anderson grabbing his second on a man-up opportunity before Page's second of the day gave a halftime lead of 7-4 in favor of SJU.
  • It took just 15 seconds for the Hawks to grab not one, but two goals to start the half. SJU raced down the field as Zach Mantei found Page for his hat trick before Zach Cole won the ensuing face off and stormed down the field to finish and put the Hawks up 9-4.
  • Colin Reich doubled up on the day before Providence would respond, trying to mount a comeback. The Hawks would shut any notion of that down, scoring the next five goals of the game before a goal as time expired for Providence stopped the bleeding at 15-6 after three quarters.
  • St. Joe's kept the Friars out of the net the entire fourth, closing out the game with a 4-0 advantage to walk away on a cold, snowy afternoon with a 19-6 win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Carter Page led the way with five goals on the day and an assist for six points.
  • Zach Cole produced a perfect 24-24 performance from the X to go with a goal. His 24-24 performance ties third most in NCAA history for face offs won with a 100% win percentage.
  • Levi Anderson recorded his third-straight hat trick of the season.
  • Ryan Doran finished with a hat trick of assists to go with his strike in the third.
  • Mac McLaughlin and Collin Reich each tallied multi-goal games.
  • Michael Gaughan and Brett Zabransky scored their first career goals for the Hawks.
  • Ryan Overbay's tally in the fourth was his third career goal.
  • The Hawks were dominant with a 58-25 advantage in shots, a 38-12 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Scott Macmillan moved to 3-0 on the year with six saves and a .500 save percentage.
