PHILADELPHIA – Jorden Concordia shined for the Hawks on Wednesday evening, recording a career-high 19 saves against Towson as the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team grabbed an 8-6 win over Towson on Sweeney Field.
The Hawks tallied its first win of the year, overcoming a two-goal deficit before holding the Tigers to just one second half goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Joe's grabbed the opener through Bonnie Yu, undisturbed through the midfield before finding the netting.
- After an equalizing score from Towson, Kate Fuhrman tallied her second goal of the season to once again put the Hawks up before the end of the first quarter.
- Bella Miceli made a deep run from defense to give the Hawks a two-goal cushion in the early stages of the second quarter, but the Tigers would end the half with a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead.
- The Hawks' defense stifled the Tigers in the second, and with under six minutes left the Crimson and Gray were able to get one back through Maddie Yoder. Sarah Groark scored her first of the evening with under a minute to play to tie the contest at 5-5.
- Yu grabbed her second of the game with 12 minutes on the clock, the Hawks retaining possession after a yellow card was issued on the goal. Groark grabbed her second of the game 38 seconds later to take advantage of the man up opportunity.
- Only a moment later, Yu would grab her hat trick with a slashing run into space before firing past the Tiger goalkeeper as the Hawks would take a three-goal lead.
- Despite not scoring over the final 10 minutes, the Hawk defense was able to capitalize off a near 25-minute scoring drought for Towson before they were able to get one back with over six minutes to play.
- Concordia continued her excellence on the day with four key saves down the stretch, not allowing the Tigers on the board the rest of the way to grab a home-opening win on Sweeney Field.
