NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's graduate student Nate Thomas was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.  Freshman Ryan Weingartner was also honored by the league with its Rookie of the Week award.

Thomas hit .533 last week, including posting a perfect 1.000 average over the weekend, as the Hawks rocked Iona in a three-game sweep; he also added a three-run home run that gave the Hawks the lead against Notre Dame on Wednesday.  Thomas totaled 10 runs scored and eight driven in over the course of five games.

In three games over the course of Friday and Saturday, the Hockessin, Delaware, native was 7-for-7 with six walks, four runs batted in, and nine runs scored.  His two-run home run in the first inning on Friday left a mark on the scoreboard and sent the Hawks on their way to a 15-5 win; Thomas followed with a 4-for-4, four-walk, five-run performance in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Gaels.

Weingartner hit safely in all five games last week and totaled a .588 average, including a 7-for-9 performance against Iona.  He was 3-for-3 with two walks, three RBI, and three stolen bases on Friday before reaching base six times in eight plate appearances and scoring five times in Saturday's doubleheader.

Hailing from Berlin, New Jersey, Weingartner finished the week 10-for-17 with four walks, seven runs scored, six driven in, and five stolen bases.  He upped his batting average to .436, good for the top spot in the Atlantic 10.

The Hawks continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday against Monmouth before hosting Maine over the weekend.
