NEWARK, Del. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Delaware, 9-3, in the quarterfinals of the Liberty Bell Classic at Bob Hannah Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Delaware (10-14) took the lead in the second on a two-run double by Andrew Amato before doubling the advantage in the third on a two-run home run by JJ Freeman.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (8-12) got on the board in the top of the fifth after a
Justin Igoe single and a
Ryan Picollo double led to a sacrifice fly by
Luke Zimmerman.
Â
• Jake Dunion's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth pushed the UD lead to 6-1, but a
Luca Trigiani double in the seventh cut it to a 6-3 game. The Hawks would then load the bases with nobody out, but a line-drive double play and a strikeout ended the rally.
Â
• The Blue Hens answered in the bottom of the frame, plating three runs to double their advantage and set the final margin.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Chris Grome was the winning pitcher for Delaware, while
David Owsik took the loss for the Hawks. Owen Margolis came on in the seventh and escaped the jam for the Blue Hens and finished the game for a three-inning save.
Â
• Igoe was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored on the day for Saint Joseph's, while Dunion led all batters with three hits and three runs batted in.
