Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to 18-9 Win Over St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team scored early and often en route to an 18-9 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon.

SJU has now won its last three games, moving to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in the inaugural Atlantic 10 season. St. Bonaventure moves to 1-10 and 0-2 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carter Page wasted no time finding the back of the net, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead coming off a six-goal performance against Monmouth.
  • After an equalizer from the Bonnies, a quick counter sprung Michael Gaughan who turned it loose to Matt Bohmer. Bohmer dove and extended, finishing past the keeper as he fell to the ground.
  • A pair of saves from Scott Macmillan sparked the Hawk offense once more on the attack, Colin Reich taking advantage of the opportunity as he drove through the heart of the Bonnies defense and added to the lead.
  • A frantic clear opportunity from the Hawks turned into a golden opportunity as Levi Anderson picked up the ball, faked a shot to get past his defender and found the back of the net. Bohmer's second goal of the day wrapped up the scoring in the first quarter, giving SJU a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.
  • A pair of goals in the opening two minutes from Carter Page and Levi Anderson increased the Hawk lead to 7-1 before a three-goal response from the Bonnies over the next five minutes cut the advantage to 7-4.
  • Tucker Brown delivered to the top shelf, wiping away the Bonnies run to give the Hawks an 8-4 lead with just over five minutes to play. Bohmer found Page, lurking near the crease as the junior turned and fired home. Page tallied his fourth of the day as time expired, helping SJU to a 10-4 lead heading into the half.
  • Page continued his hot streak, the first to recover a ground ball just outside the crease after a Tucker Brown shot, scooping the second attempt back home to cover an initial goal from the Bonnies to start the half.
  • Only seconds later, Anderson tallied his hat trick after Zach Cole won a faceoff and immediately started the offense. Page secured his double hat trick 20 seconds later, taking advantage on an EMO to increase the lead to 13-5.
  • Bohmer and Stephen Dwyer finished off what would be a 5-0 Hawk run before the Bonnies responded to make the score 15-5 with eight minutes remaining.
  • With no scoring in nearly seven minutes, St. Bonaventure cut the Hawk lead back to single digits. That deficit wouldn't last long, for the second time in as many quarters the Hawks tallying a goal in the final second as Trae Ika found his second of the season to beat the buzzer.
  • Goals from Jack McGorry and Collin Campbell all but sealed the win in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, the Hawks able to get substitutions on the field over the remaining 12 minutes. The Bonnies scored three consolation goals over the final 10:51 of the game, St. Joe's leaving the field and heading back to Hawk Hill with an 18-9 win.
