RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Saint Louis, 23-8, in its opening game at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship at The Diamond on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Louis (32-21) opened the scoring with a five-spot in the second, but the Hawks answered with four in the bottom of the frame. Singles by
Nate Thomas and

Luke Zimmerman to put the Hawks on the board.
•
Ryan Picollo drew a walk to bring up
Max Hitman, who singled home Weingartner to make it a 5-2 game.
Brett Callahan followed with a sacrifice fly before a single up the middle from
Conlan Wall cut it to 5-4.
• A solo home run in the top of the third extended the SLU lead, but Saint Joseph's (27-23-1) went ahead in the bottom of the inning.
Justin Igoe drew a walk before Weingartner singled; Zimmerman followed with a two-run triple to tie the game before Picollo brought him home with an RBI groundout.
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Billikens went ahead with a three-spot in the fifth and added runs in each of the final four innings as well.
• Wall led off the bottom of the ninth with a double before coming in to score on a single by pinch hitter
Travis Rinker, but that would be all for the Hawks.
