Baseball Routs Dayton, 15-2

DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's baseball team wrapped up its fifth series victory of the season with a 15-2 rout of Dayton at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• As they did in the first two games of the series, the Hawks got on the board early.  With one out in the first, Ryan Cesarini and Ryan Weingartner hit consecutive RBI doubles to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

• Saint Joseph's (22-20-1 overall, 12-6 Atlantic 10) blew things open in the third.  After two quick outs, a single by Weingartner and a walk by Justin Igoe brought up Nate Thomas, who doubled home a run to make it a 3-0 game.

• Travis Rinker then doubled the lead with a three-run home run before Brandon Drapeau, Max Hitman, and Brett Callahan hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to plate two more runs and push the lead to 8-0.

• Conlan Wall followed with an RBI single before Cesarini went deep with a two-run shot to give the Hawks an 11-0 lead.  SJU sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning and scored nine times, all with two outs.

• Weingartner and Thomas added solo shots of their own in the sixth to extend the advantage to 13-0.

• Dayton (18-30 overall, 10-8 Atlantic 10) scored a pair in the bottom of the eighth, but Adam Fine hit a pinch-hit two-run double in the top of the ninth to set the final margin.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Domenic Picone turned in another outstanding performance, tossing six and two-thirds shutout innings for his fourth win of the season.  He allowed three hits and struck out seven while running his individual shutout streak to 17.1 innings.

• Ryan Steinhauer started for Dayton and took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.

• Weingartner finished the day 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two driven in.  His home run was his 10th of the year, making him the first freshman in the Atlantic 10 to reach double digits on the season.

• Callahan scored three times, one of five Hawks to score multiple runs, while Rinker tallied three RBI to lead five different Hawks that drove in more than one run.  Every batter in the starting lineup reached base safely in the game.
