#10 Field Hockey Falls at #8 Michigan, 2-0

Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 10th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to #8 Michigan, 2-0, at Phyllis Ocker Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Michigan (4-2) had the early offensive initiative and would get the game's first goal, scoring on a deflection on a penalty corner with 5:38 to go in the first quarter.

• After an even second quarter, the Wolverines dominated the third, outshooting the Hawks 6-0, and adding another corner deflection goal to double their lead midway through the frame.

• Saint Joseph's (4-2) turned up the intensity in the fourth quarter and played the final 12 minutes with no keeper in favor of an extra attacker.  The Hawks earned three corners, but could not find the back of the cage.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Wolverines outshot the Hawks, 12-6, and held an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.  The advantage came directly from the third quarter, where Michigan held a six-shot and four-corner edge.

• Janelle Ward made five saves for the Hawks, while Caylie McMahon chalked up three stops for the Wolverines.

• A total of 12 cards were doled out on Sunday, nine of them to the hosts.  Seven of the cards were of the yellow variety, with the other five being green.

UP NEXT
The Hawks return to Ellen Ryan Field for their first Atlantic 10 matchup of the season.  Game time against VCU on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m.
