Women’s Soccer Battles to 0-0 Draw at Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team was bolstered by a strong defense as the Hawks took to the road and grabbed a point with a 0-0 draw over Loyola Chicago on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Over the course of the first 45 minutes, both sides were able to create clear cut chances as despite a 5-1 advantage from the hosts in shots, neither team registered a shot on goal.
  • The first save was produced by Katie Cappelletti as the Hawk shot stopper comfortably collected a curled attempt from a Rambler attacker to keep the game level on 58 minutes.
  • One of the Hawks' best chances came in the final five minutes as a ball looped into Sam Dumont saw the attacker lash a shot at goal, but a blocked effort from a defender allowed the hosts escape with the ball.
  • Both sides would settle for a draw as the Hawks remained unbeaten to start the conference season.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Cappelletti made the lone save of the night for either team, comfortably collecting the only shot from the Ramblers on frame.
  • The shutout marks her 18th of her career, having moved to the all-time leader in program history in a shutout over Rhode Island earlier this season.
  • Dumont led the way with two shots for the Hawks.
  • The 'Blers held a 15-5 shot advantage but were wasteful with their chances with just one on target. Loyola Chicago also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

UP NEXT
  • St. Joe's returns home on the weekend, facing George Mason on Sweeney Field on Sunday, September 24. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
