Women’s Basketball Readies For Quick Turnaround in Televised Matchup Against La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team hosts its second game in three days, welcoming La Salle to the Big 5 season finale as part of a doubleheader at Hagan Arena on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Both games are set for action on CBS Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
• A strong offensive performance saw the Hawks outshoot their way to a 77-62 win over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon to move to 4-1 in the early stages of the A-10 campaign.
• The Hawks trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter, but a quick burst late in the stretch cut the deficit to one. A 16-0 run enveloping the halftime break helped the Hawks extend the advantage to as many as 16 points, able to hold off the Dukes by shooting 54.4% from the field in the win, the best shooting percentage on the season.
Laura Ziegler dropped a career-high 25 points for her sixth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Talya Brugler added 23 points of her own, securing seven boards, grabbing six assists and blocking three shots. Mackenzie Smith added 18 to combine for 66 of the 77 points

Talya Brugler has scored in double-digits in 37 of 41 games against Atlantic 10 foes, including her last 12 games.
Laura Ziegler has averaged 18.3 points and 12.7 rebounds in three games against Big 5 foes this season. Five different Hawks are averaging double-figure scoring in Big 5 games.
• Brugler sits at third in the A-10 in points per game (16.6), shooting a staggering 61.0% in Atlantic 10 play.

LA SALLE: Roster | Schedule | Stats
• After a rough start to the season sitting at 3-10, the Explorers have won their last three to move to 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 and earning the first win streak of the season. Over the course of conference play, La Salle has found a more balanced attack. Three different players led the team in scoring in the three-game win streak. The Explorers get more than 23 points from their bench per game, the second-most among A-10 teams. La Salle also ranks atop the conference in three-point attempts per game, taking nearly 27 shots per game from beyond the arc - 13th most in the country.
• Molly Masciantonio became the 27th Explorer to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark in a loss to Villanova. The graduate guard has been a focal point of the office since her arrival to 20th and Olney in her sophomore season, leading the team in assists per game (3.2) while adding 9.6 points per contest. Freshman Nicole Melious has been a welcomed addition to a roster that includes 10 newcomers, leading the Explorers in scoring with 10.1 points per game. Jolene Armendariz paces the team with 6.1 rebounds per contest.
