RICHMOND, Va. – The eighth-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team topped VCU, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Cary Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (10-2 overall, 3-1 Atlantic 10) got things started midway through the first quarter as
Sol Borensztein's shot trickled through the VCU goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

• VCU (7-4 overall, 2-2 Atlantic 10) drew level late in the second on a breakaway by Skyler Padgett.

•
Bridget McCormick put the Hawks back in front just 42 seconds into the second half, tipping home a ball from
Julia Duffhuis on a penalty corner.

• Then, with just 20 seconds left in the third quarter,
Manu Ghigliotti sent a long ball from the sideline to the center of the cage where
Erika Culp was waiting to deflect it past VCU's Emma Clements for a 3-1 lead.

• The Rams got one back three minutes into the fourth quarter on a penalty corner goal by Morena Macera, but Duffhuis restored the lead two minutes later as she took a corner insertion feed from
Celeste Smits and deposited it in the bottom corner of the cage to set the final score.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
•
Marith Bijkerk made three saves for the Hawks, while Clement had four stops for the Rams.

• Both teams ripped off 11 shots in the game, while VCU held a 6-4 edge in corner opportunities.

• Duffhuis finished the day with three points, as did Macera.

• McCormick's goal was her first in a Hawk uniform, and it came against her former team.
