WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team dropped a road contest to George Washington on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 2-0 loss in Atlantic 10 action.
The Hawks fall to 2-10-1 on the season and 0-5-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the two teams traded shots in the opening minutes, the Revolutionaries opened the scoring after their first effort on target found the back of the net in the 15th minute.
- St. Joe's nearly found a response immediately through Campbell McIntyre. The forward's attempt was saved by the goalkeeper less than a minute after the restart.
- George Washington doubled the lead in the 23rd minute as William Turner grabbed a brace with his finish to put GW up 2-0.
- A strong spell of pressure from the Hawks nearly resulted in a goal, but the woodwork denied an attempt from Blake Driehuis to keep the visitors scoreless.
- Earning his second career appearance in the first half, Carter Fitzgerald made the first save of his career to help the Hawks keep within distance in the 56th minute.
- Fitzgerald earned his second save of the day in between a pair of Hawk attempts on the other end that were unable to be directed on goal.
- Three shots from the Hawks in the final 10 minutes of play all failed to find the back of the net as George Washington held on for the 2-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both Saint Joseph's and George Washington each had 13 shots on the afternoon, with the Revs holding a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Bart Kooistra led the Hawks with three shots on the day.
- Carter Fitzgerald allowed zero goals and made two saves in 62 minutes on the afternoon.
