AMHERST, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell on the road to Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon in a 4-0 defeat to the Minutemen at Rudd Field.
The Hawks drop to 2-8-1 on the season and 0-3-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Minutemen struck first in the opening five minutes, picking up a loose ball near the edge of the box and striking to the top left corner to give the hosts a lead.
- UMass made the lead 3-0 inside 20 minutes after a pair of goals minutes between each other widened the hosts' advantage.
- Matteo Mazzotta looked to gain a goal back for the Hawks, his effort from range on the 30th minute forcing the goalkeeper into a save to keep St. Joe's out of the net.
- Massachusetts made it 4-0 just under an hour after capitalizing off a set piece.
- St. Joe's tried to respond with a trio of shot attempts after the hour mark, but were unable to test the goalkeeper as the Hawks fell on the road in a 4-0 defeat.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Hawks were outshot by a 21-8 margin, an 11-2 margin in shots on goal in favor of the Minutemen.
- UMass also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- Lars Haavie recorded a career-high seven saves in the defeat.
- Carter Fitzgerald made his collegiate debut in the net, playing the last 11 minutes of the contest.
- Matteo Mazzotta recorded both shots on target for the Hawks, leading the team with four total attempts.
