#5 Field Hockey Shuts Out La Salle in Regular Season Finale, 3-0

MERION STATION, Pa. – Two goals in the first quarter and one in the fourth led the fifth-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team past La Salle, 3-0, in the regular season finale for both teams at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (15-3 overall, 6-1 Atlantic 10) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter as Maaike Gorissen dribbled across the circle and fired high into the cage for her first goal of the season with 8:18 remaining in the frame.

• Erika Culp doubled the lead six minutes later, redirecting a long pass across the front of the cage from Bridget McCormick for her 10th goal of the season and a 2-0 halftime lead for SJU.

• Neither team tallied in the third quarter, but Culp set up the last tally of the game five minutes into the fourth, sending a ball to the front of the goal for Alison Buffington to slide onto for a stylish finish and a 3-0 final margin.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Marith Bijkerk stopped the only shot she faced for her seventh shutout of the season.  Leah DiRenzo made eight saves in the cage for La Salle (9-10 overall, 1-6 Atlantic 10).

• SJU recorded the only two penalty corners of the game, both coming in the third quarter, and enjoyed a 19-1 shot advantage on the day.

• Culp collected three points on Friday.  Her goal gave the Hawks three 10-goal scorers on the season; Saint Joseph's is the only team in Division I with three 10-goal scorers thus far.

• The Hawks finish the regular season having conceded just 20 goals in 18 games; one-fourth of them came in the opening game at UConn.
