ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A first-half offensive outburst carried second-ranked Northwestern past the third-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team, 5-0, in the Division I Field Hockey national championship game at Phyllis Ocker Field on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Northwestern (23-1) took the early lead as Maddie Zimmer fired home with 8:43 to go in the first. The Wildcats then doubled the advantage through Olivia Bent-Cole with 3:50 left in the frame.

• Ilse Tromp made it a 3-0 game in the closing seconds of the quarter on a penalty corner.

• Two more corner goals by Zimmer and Tromp made it a 5-0 deficit at halftime.

• The Hawks enjoyed more possession in the third quarter but could not convert it into a scoring chance.

• The fourth quarter mirrored the third; the Hawks settled into the game and earned a pair of late penalty corners, but they ultimately went for naught.
