Ziegler Registers Triple-Double as Hawks Cruise Past Saint Francis, 88-35

PHILADELPHIA – Laura Ziegler became just the fourth Hawk in program history to record a triple-double as Saint Joseph's cruised to an 88-35 victory over Saint Francis on Wednesday afternoon inside Hagan Arena.

The Hawks move to 5-1 on the year, now 17-1 in their last 18 games in November. St. Joe's has a 62.5 margin of victory in its two home games on the season.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Four different Hawks registered a bucket in the opening five minutes as St. Joe's quickly built a 16-4 lead into the media timeout.
  • St. Joe's held the Red Flash scoreless over the final five minutes of the frame but only added four points offensively to take a 20-4 lead after the first frame.

SECOND QUARTER
  • Rhian Stokes buried a three-pointer from the wing for her second triple of the game before Laura Ziegler earned an old-fashioned three-point play a minute later to extend the lead to 22 points. Forcing a quick turnover, Ziegler then buried a deep triple of her own to force a Saint Francis timeout with the Hawks leading 29-4.
  • The Hawks capped off an eventual 17-0 run on the other end of the timeout before Saint Francis ended the drought with a three from the corner.
  • St. Joe's scored the next nine points and the final 15 of 20 to grow the lead to 46-12 at the half.

THIRD QUARTER
  • The Red Flash opened the second half with a pair of free throws before Talya Brugler started a 10-0 run for the Hawks. Meja Jägerskog closed the run with the last four points to give the Hawks a 56-14 lead.
  • The teams traded points over the final four minutes before Mackenzie Smith buried her third three of the game and a Ziegler layup with 24 seconds gave St. Joe's a 67-21 lead with 10 minutes to play.

FOURTH QUARTER
  • Saint Francis traded possessions with the Hawks over the first five minutes before Gabby Casey went on a 5-0 personal run.
  • Laura Ziegler registered her ninth assist heading into the media timeout. The next possession, Ziegler found Brugler inside to collect her 10th assist of the afternoon, becoming the first Hawk in nearly 36 years to record a triple-double.
  • Aleah Snead and Stokes each finished with a basket in the final three minutes as St. Joe's walked out 88-35 victors.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Laura Ziegler became the fourth Hawk in program history to collect a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Ziegler was the first Hawk since Debbie Black (12 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals) to earn a triple-double, Black recording hers against Duquesne on February 13, 1988.
  • Ziegler has now registered her 26th double-double of her career, having posted at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in each of the last four games and in five of the six games to start the season.
  • Ziegler's triple-double is just the sixth to be recorded in the 2024-25 season.
  • Talya Brugler added a game-high 18 points in the win on 8-10 shooting from the field. Brugler matched a career-high with six assists, a feat reached twice last season.
  • Brugler's 1,483 career points is just 14 shy of matching Megan Compain's (1993-97) career total, the former Hawk sitting eighth in scoring in program history.
  • Mackenzie Smith tallied 17 points and added three steals, 13 points shy of 16th in school history in scoring.
  • In her first collegiate start, Rhian Stokes finished with a career-high 12 points, adding two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the win.
  • Gabby Casey produced nine points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks to round out the stat sheet. Only one Hawk (Amanda Fioravanti, Jan. 25, 2017) in the last 14 seasons has registered at least 7/7/4/2/2 in a single game.
  • The Hawks led end-to-end, the fourth time this season that St. Joe's never trailed in a game.
  • St. Joe's held Saint Francis to just 12 points in the first half, the lowest output in a single half on the season.
  • The Crimson and Gray collected 25 assists on 35 made field goals, the fifth time on the season that the Hawks posted at least 20 assists.
  • St. Joe's finished 35-62 (56.5%) from the floor for the highest shooting percentage of the season and the third time on the year shooting above 50%. The Hawks were efficient from behind the arc, knocking down 9-of-20 (45.0%) from deep.
  • Saint Francis only scored 35 points, the fifth time in the last two seasons that the Hawks held an opponent to 40 or fewer points.
  • Since the 2009-10 season, the Hawks have held an opponent to under 25% from the field (12-50) for the 11th time after the Red Flash finished the evening at 24% from the floor.
  • The Hawks won the turnover battle 19-10, forcing a 30-2 discrepancy in points off turnovers.
  • The 53-point win is the sixth-highest margin of win against a Division I opponent in program history and just the 12th time the Hawks have won by 50+ points.
  • In two games at Hagan Arena this season, the Hawks have averaged a margin of victory of 62.5 points.
  • The Hawks are 3-0 all-time against Saint Francis, winning by an average of 33.3 points per game.
