MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team earned its first victory of the spring on Saturday, topping Lafayette, 5-2, at the SJU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The visitors struck first, claiming the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead.

• Victoria Tracey only dropped one game in her second-flight singles match to equalize for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-0 win.  Lafayette would then edge in front once again after a win in the third flight, but a 6-4, 6-1 triumph in the fourth by Charlotte Kordonowy drew Saint Joseph's level once again.

• Brooke Tackett posted a 6-2, 6-1 win in the fifth flight to bring the Hawks to match point; Fabiana Tort-Umpierre secured it by rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win in the first flight.  Ireland Amato then added the final point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the sixth.

"We got off to a slow start in doubles, but I'm so proud of how they responded in singles, winning five of six flights," head coach Jeff Puhan said.  "Game ball goes to Fabiana, who clinched with a three-set victory.  A great team win for everyone!"
