CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior transfer
Sierra Fretz connected on her first home run as a Hawk, but host College of Charleston topped Saint Joseph's, 5-3, in the final game of the Charleston Invitational on Sunday.
How It HappenedÂ
• College of Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Brooke Marquez.
• Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 2-1 as
Jenna Currie scored on a RBI single by Karelee Smith.
• A sacrifice fly by Marquez gave the Cougars a 3-1 edge in the bottom of the second.
• Fretz connected on a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
• A RBI double by Malaka Belser pushed College of Charleston ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
• A fielding error by the Hawks led to another run later in the sixth as Belser scored to make it 5-3.
• Saint Joseph's got its lead-off runner on in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars worked out of trouble to earn the 5-3 win.
