Softball Falls To Host Cougars, 5-3, In Charleston Invitational Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior transfer Sierra Fretz connected on her first home run as a Hawk, but host College of Charleston topped Saint Joseph's, 5-3, in the final game of the Charleston Invitational on Sunday.

How It Happened 
• College of Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Brooke Marquez.
• Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 2-1 as Jenna Currie scored on a RBI single by Karelee Smith.
• A sacrifice fly by Marquez gave the Cougars a 3-1 edge in the bottom of the second.
• Fretz connected on a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
• A RBI double by Malaka Belser pushed College of Charleston ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
• A fielding error by the Hawks led to another run later in the sixth as Belser scored to make it 5-3.
• Saint Joseph's got its lead-off runner on in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars worked out of trouble to earn the 5-3 win.

Inside The Boxscore
• Fretz went 2-for-3 with a home run.
• Smith and Kayla Tauber each went 1-for-3.
• Currie and Gianna Muhaw both went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
• St. Joe's starter Jenna Wagner allowed three runs on five hits over 3.0 innings.
• Taylor Trowbridge tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
• Emily Siler moved to 0-3 as she allowed two unearned runs over 2.0 innings, while striking out one.
