Saint Joseph's softball team opened the Atlantic 10 portion of its schedule with a pair of dominant performances as the Hawks topped St. Bonaventure 10-0 and 9-1, both in five innings, on Saturday afternoon at SJU Softball Field.
How It Happened - Game One
• Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as a
Hailey Malito was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing
Gianna Muhaw to score.
• A two-run single by
Riley York scored
Sarah Cancila and
Kayla Tauber to open a 3-0 lead.
• Cancila made it 5-0 in the bottom of the second as she singled home
Shelby LaMont and Muhaw.
• A Malito single scored Tauber to open a 6-0 lead later in the second.
• York doubled home Malito and Cancila, and
Haley McMenamin singled in York to cap the six-run second to make it 9-0.
• The Hawks added an insurance run in the third as Tauber scored off of a sacrifice fly by Tauber to extend the lead to 10-0.
• Starter
Emily Siler and St. Joe's defense made the lead stand as they worked around a hit in both the fourth and fifth to earn the five-inning victory.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Tauber was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
• Cancila was 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.
• Riley was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored.
• Siler improved to 4-5 with the win, allowing five hits over five innings, while striking out one.
How It Happened - Game Two
• York doubled home Cancila to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
• A two-run single by McMenamin added to the lead later in the first inning.
• Malito and Cancila scored on York's second double of the game to make it 5-0 in the third.
• Morgan Lester made it 5-0 with a RBI single that scored York,
• McMenamin scored on an infield put out off the bat of Sierra Fretz, and Meghan Sinkus singled home Lester to cap a five-run third inning and make it 8-0.
• A sacrifice fly by Olivia Moon scored Brooke Bobbey to bring the Bonnies to within 8-1 in the top of the fifth.
• Sinkus walked it off for the Hawks in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single that score Nicole Bondoc.
Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
• Starter Taylor Trowbridge earned the victory, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits, while striking out four to improve to 2-4.
• York was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
• Cancila and Malito each scored twice and recorded a hit.
• McMenamin and Sinkus both drove in a pair of runs and collected a hit.
