PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team was selected for the 32-team Inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament and will host a first round matchup against Seton Hall on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
St. Joe's finished the regular season with 26 wins, setting a program record for wins during the regular season and tying the record for most wins in program history. With a 15-3 record in conference play, the Hawks tied for second in the Atlantic 10 ,while earning the three seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship before falling in the quarterfinals.
St. Joe's earned its 14
th postseason appearance under the direction of head coach
Cindy Griffin, the first back-to-back postseason appearance since the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Griffin has earned more than half of the Hawks' 26 postseason bids during her time on the sidelines.
The 2023-24 squad went 11-1 in the non-conference, the best mark for Griffin in her 26 seasons as a head coach. The Hawks defeated UAB to win the Hawk Classic while going a perfect 6-0 on the season against Philadelphia foes, including a 4-0 performance in the Big 5 to see the Crimson and Gray earn its first outright Big 5 title since 2013-14.
On the other side of the bracket, the winner between St. Joe's and Seton Hall faces either California or Hawaii in the second round.
First round play is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, with the second round on March 24. Quarterfinals will be held on March 28, with four teams advancing to Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University for the semifinals on Monday, April 1. The WBIT will conclude with the inaugural championship game on Wednesday, April 3.
