Men's Basketball Outlasted By Seton Hall In Overtime, 75-72

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.Erik Reynolds II scored a game-high 27 points, but one-seed Seton Hall outlasted the Hawks in overtime, 75-72, in the First Round of the 2024 National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday evening at Walsh Gymnasium.

How It Happened
Erik Reynolds II gave the Hawks a 5-2 lead early, connecting on a corner three-pointer at 18:02 to pass DeAndre' Bembry (2013-16) for 15th place all-time in career scoring.
• Seton Hall responded with consecutive three-pointers to take an 8-5 lead on a basket by Dylan Addae-Wusu.
• A three-pointer by Christ Essandoko and a driving layup by Xzayvier Brown put the Hawks back ahead, 10-8.
• The Pirates jumped back in front, 12-10, but another three-pointer by Reynolds II made it 13-12 in favor of St. Joe's.
Xzayvier Brown gave the Hawks an 18-14 lead on a three-pointer at 9:31.
• Seton Hall tied the game at 18, but a three-point play by Reynolds II put Saint Joseph's in front, 21-18.
• A three-pointer from Reynolds II and a dunk by Rasheer Fleming gave the Hawks a 26-21 lead.
• Saint Joseph's scored seven straight to break a 30-30 tie as a steal and layup by Reynolds II made it 37-30 with 1:34 left in the half.
• After Seton Hall cut the deficit to three, Cameron Brown pushed the Hawks out in front 40-34 with a three-pointer with :35 to go in the period.
• A three-pointer by Al-Amir Dawes made it 40-37 going into halftime.
• Saint Joseph's opened the second period on a 6-1 run to take a 46-38 lead on a Fleming basket at 17:26.
• Dawes brought Seton Hall back within four, 48-44, on a basket at 15:43.
• A jumper from Reynolds II put the Hawks ahead by eight, 52-44.
• Dre Davis capped a 6-0 run for Seton Hall as his basket at 11:25 made it 52-50.
• A contested basket in the paint by Reynolds II pushed St. Joe's ahead 54-50.
• Dawes gave the Pirates their first lead of the second half, 57-54, on a three-pointer with 8:31 to play.
• A three-pointer by Cameron Brown snapped a 9-0 run by Seton Hall and brought the Hawks to within two, 59-57.
• Reynolds II capped a 10-0 run for the Hawks, putting them back ahead, 68-65, on a basket with :41 remaining.
• Dawes tied the game at 68 shortly after.
• With the shot clock turned off, Saint Joseph's held for the final shot, but a last-second attempt was turned away.
• In overtime, Seton Hall pulled ahead by two twice, but the Hawks answered as a layup by Reynolds II knotted the game at 72 all with 1:10 to go.
• Dawes put Seton Hall back in front, 75-72, on a contested three-pointer with :48 remaining.
• Saint Joseph's failed to convert on its next possession, but the Hawks' defense caused a shot clock violation, giving the ball back to St. Joe's with nine seconds left.
• The Hawks' got a game-tying look for Reynolds II, but the ball missed its mark as Seton Hall grabbed the rebound to end the game.

• Reynolds II finished the evening 11-22 from the floor and 1-1 from the line, and added three boards, three assists and three steals.
• Reynolds II capped the season with 606 points and 112 three-pointers, 13th and second-most in a single season, respectively.
• Essandoko grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and scored 14 points.
Xzayvier Brown was the third Hawk in double figures, adding 13 points to go with a season-high 10 assists for his first collegiate double-double.
Cameron Brown, playing his final game as a Hawk, scored eight points and added four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
• Along with playing in a program-record 147 games, Brown finished third all-time in career three-pointers (278), 19th in points (1,544) and 27th in rebounds (666).
• Saint Joseph's capped the 2023-24 season with its most wins (21) since 2015-16 (28) and first postseason appearance since 2015-16.
