Baseball Nipped by Kent State, 3-2

KENT, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's baseball team opened a seven-game road trip on Friday, falling to Kent State by a 3-2 score at Schoonover Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kent State (10-11) got on the board first with a solo home run by Jake Casey in the bottom of the second.

• The Golden Flashes doubled their lead on an RBI groundout by Lance MacDonald in the fourth and then pushed it to three on a single by Casey in the sixth.

• Saint Joseph's (8-11) broke through in the seventh.  Brandon Drapeau led off with a single before a walk to Max Hitman put two on with nobody out.

• Nick Senior sacrificed the runners into scoring position, and two batters later, Conlan Wall singled up the middle to bring in Drapeau.  Hitman then scored on a wild pitch to bring the Hawks within one.

• Wall drew a walk in the ninth inning to put the tying run aboard, but the Golden Flashes were able to escape the inning unscathed.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Jack Kartsonas tossed six shutout innings for Kent State, allowing three hits, to earn the win and moved to 3-2.  Will McCausland allowed three runs – one earned – on five hits while fanning five in six hits to take the tough-luck loss and fall to 1-2.

• Wall and Ryan Picollo recorded two hits apiece for the Hawks, with both of Picollo's hits being doubles.  Alec Rodriguez chipped in four strikeouts in two innings of shutout relief on the mound.

• Senior notched two sac bunts on the day, matching the most in a game in program history; the most recent Hawk to lay down two sacrifices in one game was Liam Bendo on April 16, 2022.

UP NEXT
Due to unseasonably cold conditions in the forecast, Saturday's game has been pushed back to Sunday.  The teams will play a doubleheader at Schoonover Stadium, beginning at noon.
