EASTON, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team dropped its Liberty Bell quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, falling to Lafayette by a 13-7 score at Kamine Stadium.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Lafayette (6-18) took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on an RBI double by Blaze Fadio.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (9-13) equalized in the second after
Colin Myers drew a two-out walk, stole second, and scored on a single by
Jakob Reed, but the Leopards would regain the lead in the bottom of the frame on a throwing error.
Â
• The Hawks would go ahead in the third.Â
Ryan Cesarini led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by
Ryan Weingartner; two batters later,
Ryan Picollo hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Weingartner and give the Hawks the lead.
Â
• The hosts went back in front in the bottom of the frame on a two-run home run by Fadio. His single in the fourth pushed the lead to 5-3.
Â
• An error in the top of the fifth allowed
Owen Petrich to score and get the Hawks back within a run, but single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh extended the Hawks' deficit to 8-4.
Â
• A bases-loaded walk to Petrich in the eighth made it an 8-5 game, but the Leopards blew the game open with a five-spot in the bottom of the inning.
Â
•Â
Conlan Wall added a two-run single in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Â
