DAVIDSON, N.C. – Five multi-run innings powered the Saint Joseph's baseball team to a 15-8 win over Davidson in Saturday's series finale at Wilson Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (10-15 overall, 1-2 Atlantic 10) never trailed in this one, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.Â
Conlan Wall led off the game with a single before
Ryan Weingartner ripped his seventh home run of the season to put the Hawks ahead just 10 pitches into the game.Â
Ryan Picollo added a sacrifice fly later in the frame to push the lead to three.
Â
•Â
Ryan Cesarini legged out a bunt single to lead off the third and then stole second before eventually scoring on a wild pitch.Â
Carter Jagiela later doubled home
Tim Dickinson for a 5-0 SJU lead.
Â
• The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the third, plating four on a three-run home run by Jacob Friend and a solo shot by Michael O'Shaughnessy.
Â
• The Hawks got one back in the fourth on a single by
Owen Petrich that scored Weingartner before Davidson drew back within a run on a sacrifice fly by Aidan Rice.
Â
•
Colin Myers hit a solo home run in the fifth, the first of his collegiate career, to push the lead back to two; Petrich doubled it later in the frame with a two-run single that brought home Wall and Weingartner and made it a 9-5 game.
Â
• Tyler Douglas singled in a run for the hosts in the bottom of the fifth, but a solo home run from
Brandon Drapeau gave the Hawks a 10-6 advantage.
Â
• Davidson (13-14 overall, 2-1 Atlantic 10) got back within a pair on a two-run home run by Nick Calero in the seventh, but the Hawks added some breathing room in the eighth. Dickinson led off with a walk before scoring on a double by Picollo; two batters later, Jagiela singled him home to make it a 12-8 game. Wall would add a sac fly later in the inning to push the lead to five.
Â
• Dickinson would triple home Petrich in the top of the ninth before Picollo closed out the scoring with a sac fly.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
•
Domenic Picone moved to 3-1 on the season after allowing six runs and striking out 11 in five innings. Ryan Feczko took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in two and two-thirds innings, to fall to 2-4.Â
Alec Rodriguez recorded the final seven outs of the game without allowing a hit to secure his first save of the season.
Â
• Every batter in the starting lineup notched at least one hit and one run scored, with all aside from Cesarini recording at least two. Petrich finished 4-for-6 with three runs batted in, while Picollo drove in three as well. Weingartner was 3-for-6 on the day, adding two RBI and three runs scored, while Dickinson scored three runs of his own.
Â
• The 15 runs scored by the Hawks match a season high (vs. Bucknell on March 3), while the 20 hits are a new season best.
