Men’s Lacrosse Dominates on Alumni Day in 15-7 Win Over High Point

PHILADELPHIA – The Hawks led from start to finish in a convincing win over High Point on Saturday afternoon, earning a 15-7 conference-opening win over the Panthers on Sweeney Field.

The Hawks cruise to a six-game win streak, moving to 6-3 (1-0 A-10) on the year while High Point falls to 6-5 (0-1 A-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matt Bohmer got the scoring started with a pair of goals in the opening five minutes, moving to the top in program history in goals scored to help St. Joe's to an early 2-0 lead.
  • Jesse Jason dodged past his defender to find open space before finding the back of the net for a three-goal lead before the Panthers found two goals to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
  • Bohmer secured his first quarter hat trick after Levi Anderson found the Charlotte, N.C. native open for his third goal of the game.
  • After High Point returned fire with a goal with 15 seconds remaining on the clock, the Hawks were able to win the ensuing face-off as Levi Verch raced down the field, Danny Gaalaas finding the defenseman wide open who loaded and fired into the back of the net with 0.6s remaining in the opening quarter.
  • Jason and Bohmer again found early success in the second quarter to jumpstart a five-goal run over the opening eight minutes.
  • Carter Page scored his lone goal of the game to move to 36 consecutive games with a goal scored before Colin Reich and Anderson also tallied their first goals of the game to push the Hawk lead to 10-3. Anderson's goal came off a rebound from Mark Watters, his shot cannoning off of Anderson's leg and flying into the air. Poor control from the High Point defense allowed the spinning effort trickle into the netting as the momentum turned completely to the hosts.
  • The Panthers split goals in between Reich's second of the afternoon to reduce the deficit to 11-5 headed into the half.
  • Defenses for both teams proved tough to navigate, as High Point was only able to win the third quarter 2-1 over the 15 minutes with Anderson grabbing his second of the game.
  • The Hawks kept the Panthers out of the back of the net for the final 20+ minutes of the game, holding High Point off the board over the fourth quarter as Jason was able to grab two more goals to push his tally to four on the afternoon.
  • Bohmer finished off the scoring with his fifth of the afternoon, St. Joe's taking a comfortable 15-7 win in the A-10 opener.
