MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team dropped the finale of its four-game homestand, falling to Fairfield by a 19-5 score in a game that was cut short by darkness on a dreary Tuesday afternoon at Smithson Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (5-5) took the lead with another big first inning.Â
Conlan Wall led off with an infield single before
Ryan Weingartner hit his league-leading sixth home run of the season to give SJU a 2-0 lead.
Â
• Two batters later,
Owen Petrich added a solo shot to extend the lead to three before
Luke Zimmerman doubled, moved up on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout by
Carter Jagiela to push the lead to 4-0.
Â
• Fairfield (1-10) got on the board in the top of the third, halving the Hawk advantage with a pair. That's where it would stay until the seventh, when the Stags would take the lead with six runs, four of which were unearned.
Â
• Weingartner led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and scored on a single by Zimmerman, but the visitors would score 11 times in the eighth to set the final margin.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Aidan Colagrande was the winning pitcher, while
Matt McShane took the loss.
Â
• Zimmerman was 3-for-4 on the day, while Weingartner added two hits and scored twice.
Â
•
