RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Joseph's
Erik Reynolds II and
Xzayvier Brown combined for 42 points, but the Hawks' second-half rally came up short as Richmond held on for a 73-66 decision on Wednesday evening at Robins Center.
How It Happened
• After a back-and-forth start, Richmond broke an 8-8 tie with a 7-0 run as a three-pointer by Delonnie Hunt made it 15-8.
• A basket by
Xzayvier Brown and a three-pointer from
Rasheer Fleming brought the Hawks to within 15-13.Â
• Up 17-15, Richmond scored eight straight points to open a 25-15 advantage on a pair of Hunt free throws.
• The Spiders extended their lead to as many as 12, but the Hawks battled back as a three-pointer by Reynolds II brought St. Joe's to within 36-27 at halftime.
• Scoring eight of the first 11 points of the second half, Richmond extended its lead to 44-30 on a Neal Quinn layup just over three minutes into the period.
• Back-to-back three-pointers by
Xzayvier Brown made it 44-36 at 15:23.
• Reynolds II crossed the 1,500-point threshold with a dunk at 11:20 to bring the Hawks within 47-40.
• Richmond scored five straight to extend its lead to 52-40 on a Hunt three-pointer.
• Saint Joseph's continued to chip away at Richmond's advantage as a layup by Reynolds II made it 56-51.
• A three-pointer by Tyler Harris gave Richmond a 65-55 edge with 2:27 to go.
• The Hawks continued to attack with a three-pointer by
Xzayvier Brown making it 67-61 with 1:48 left.
• Richmond allowed St. Joe's to get no closer than five from there as it closed out the game going 6-6 from the foul line in the final minute.
