Softball Opens Play At Weiler Orthodontics Tournament

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Saint Joseph's opened play at the Weiler Orthodontics Tournament on Friday as the Hawks took on Binghamton and Radford. Sarah Cancila connected on her first home run of the season in game one, but Binghamton held on to top the Hawks, 7-1, while Radford downed St. Joe's, 8-0, in the nightcap in five innings.

How It Happened - Game One
• Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a RBI double by Brianna Santos.
• A two-run single by Lindsey Walter made it 3-0 later in the second.
• A fielder's choice in the top of the fourth allowed Binghamton to extend its lead to 4-0.
• Cancila brought the Hawks to within 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth with her first homer of the year.
• Shelby Carvalho added insurance runs with solo home runs in fifth and seventh.

Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Cancila was 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Shelby LaMont went 1-for-1.
Taylor Trowbridge moved to 1-3 on the season as she allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out one over 3.1 innings.
Jenna Wagner struck out two batters and allowed three runs over 3.0 innings of relief.
Karlee Smith tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless relief.

How It Happened - Game Two
• Cassi Barbato made it 1-0 in the top of the first on a RBI single.
• Radford extended its lead to 6-0 in the second run as they plated five runs on three hits.
• Barbato added two more runs for Radford with a sacrifice fly in the third and a RBI double in the fifth.

Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
Riley York and Hailey Malito each went 1-for-2.
• Giana Muhaw was 1-for-3.
• Smith moved to 0-2 as the St. Joe's starter allowed three runs over 1.1 innings, while striking out one.
• Trowbridge and Jenna Wagner each collected two strike outs in relief.
