Men’s Lacrosse Earns 12-7 Victory at Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team earned an early lead and never looked back, comfortably defeating Hobart 12-7 on the road for the eighth consecutive win of the season.

The Hawks continue an unbeaten start to the conference campaign, now moving to 8-3 on the year and 3-0 against the Atlantic 10. Hobart falls to 3-8 on the year, 0-3 in the A-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Toron Eccleston grabbed a goal in the first two minutes, a slingshot attempt from low surged past the goalkeeper to open the Hawks' tally.
  • Matt Bohmer doubled the lead early on, taking it solo after backing up an earlier attempt before getting to the front and tucking it into the net.
  • Back-and-forth action between the two teams saw both defenses trade stops throughout a seven-minute span, the Hawks able to earn possession on a ride as goalkeeper Tommy Gross picked off a pass and led a quick counter. Levi Anderson capitalized on the other end, pump faking to get past a defender before firing to the far post and into the net.
  • The ensuing face-off saw Gavin Tygh come out with his third win of the day, dishing it off to Michael Gaughan from his own half as the defensive midfielder called his own number after sprinting down the left alley and slotted his attempt home for a 4-0 Hawk lead.
  • Headed into the second frame, it continued to be St. Joe's as Carter Page was able to earn his first goal of the game after a missile was finally stopped by the top left netting of the goal to extend the lead with just over eight minutes to play in the half.
  • After Hobart was able to secure its first goal of the game, the Hawks crushed any momentum as the ball moved around the field before Bohmer slipped in Griffin Mallory down the middle of the field before a tidy finish put the lead back to five.
  • The Statesmen scored back-to-back goals before Bohmer almost posted a carbon copy goal of his first effort with a minute to play. Securing his hat trick with 10 seconds remaining, Bohmer found open space in the alley and fired low and through the goalkeeper's legs to help the Hawks take an 8-3 lead at the break.
  • Bohmer started the second half with his fourth goal of the day before Mallory's second of the game disrupted Hobart's eventual 3-1 run over the final 14 minutes of the half.
  • With the Hawks holding a 10-6 lead into the final 15 minutes, Anderson once again pushed the lead to five after punishing the net with his second strike of the day.
  • Mallory secured his first career hat trick to give the Hawks a 12-6 lead, Hobart only able to get one goal back over the final five minutes as the Hawks secured its eighth consecutive win of the season.
