Cancila's Grand Slam Powers Softball To 8-6 Victory At George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C.Sarah Cancila's grand slam sparked a six-run seventh inning for Saint Joseph's as the Hawks topped George Washington, 8-6, in Sunday's series finale at GW Softball Field. 

How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by Riley York.
• George Washington's Ashley Corpuz made it 2-1 in the third on a solo home run.
• Corpuz tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly that scored Reese Torres.
• With the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the seventh, Cancila connected on a grand slam to give the Hawks a 6-2 lead.
Hailey Malito scored on a RBI triple by York to make it 7-2.
• Pinch runner Karlee Smith pushed St. Joe's lead to 8-2 as she scored from third on a RBI single by Meghan Sinkus.
• George Washington tried to answer in the bottom of the seventh as a two-run double by Alexa Williams made it 8-4.
• Paige Hayward doubled in two more runs for the Revs to make it an 8-6 contest with two outs.
Taylor Trowbridge got Mandy Lauth to strike out in the next at-bat to close out the victory for the Hawks.

• Cancila was 1-for-4 with the grand slam.
• York was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBI.
• Trowbridge earned the win to improve to 9-6 on the season as she tossed 3.2 innings of relief, and allowed four runs on three hits, while striking out four.
• St. Joe's starter Emily Siler went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits, and struck out four.
