MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team suffered a tough loss on Friday, as the Hawks fell to St. Bonaventure, 6-4, in 11 innings at Smithson Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Bonaventure (13-19 overall, 4-6 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the top of the third on a two-run single by Morgan Little.
Â
• The Hawks drew level in the bottom of the frame as
Conlan Wall tripled into the right field corner and scored on a double by
Ryan Cesarini. After a single by
Ryan Weingartner, Cesarini scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Â
• That's where it stayed until the top of the eighth when the Bonnies went ahead by a pair on consecutive RBI singles by David Marshall and Chris Hoalcraft.
Â
• Saint Joseph's (14-19 overall, 4-6 Atlantic 10) got one back in the bottom of the inning as Weingartner was hit by a pitch before
Owen Petrich singled; an error in center field allowed Weingartner to come all the way around to score and make it a 4-3 game.
Â
•Â
Alec Rodriguez stranded the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to allow the Hawks a chance for the tie.Â
Brandon Drapeau led off with a single before being replaced on the basepaths by
Joey Gale, who moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Max Hitman. Wall followed with a single to center that was again misplayed; Gale scored and Wall ended up on third with one out. Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Bonnies shifted to a five-man infield and snuffed out a potential game-winning hit from Cesarini before inducing a pop-up to send the game to extra innings.
Â
• In the 11th, an error and a sacrifice fly brought home what would prove to be the winning runs for the visitors.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Tristan Ciampa allowed two runs on three hits and five walks in four innings to earn the win, while Rodriguez was charged with two runs on no hits in two innings to take the loss. Luke Roggenburk worked a perfect frame in the 11th for the save.
Â
• Wall and Cesarini enjoyed multi-hit days for the Hawks, while each member of the starting lineup reached base safely in the game.
