DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's softball team fell to Dayton in the opening two games of its series on Saturday. In a pair of defensive battles, the Flyers won in their final at-bats in both games, 3-2 and 2-1, respectively.
How It Happened - Game One
• The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run home run by
Sierra Fretz.
• Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the second as Nico Papavasiliou connected on a two-run home run.
• The game remained tied heading into the seventh as the Hawks got a leadoff double by
Riley York, but couldn't get the go-ahead run around to score.
• In the bottom half of the inning, the Flyers' Emma Schutter doubled home Emily Daniel for the game-winning run.

• Fretz was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.
• York went 2-for-3 with a double.

Emily Siler moved to 8-8 as she allowed two earned runs over 6.1 innings, while striking out eight.
How It Happened - Game Two
• Saint Joseph's opened a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as
Haley McMenamin scored on a RBI double by Fretz.
• A bases-loaded walk by Dee Hyde tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
• Maddie Kapsimalis delivered the game-winning run for the Flyers in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double that scored Schutter.

• Fretz was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double and a RBI.
• McMenamin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Taylor Trowbridge moved to 9-8 on the year as she allowed two earned runs on six hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out three.
