Saint Joseph's softball team splits its series-opening doubleheader versus Loyola Chicago on Saturday at SJU Softball Field. The Hawks took the opener, 2-1, but fell in the nighcap, 8-2.

• In a pitchers' duel between the Hawks'
Emily Siler and Ramblers' Peyton Pepkowski, Saint Joseph's broke through in the bottom of the fifth as a two-run double by
Sierra Fretz scored
Kayla Tauber and
Sarah Cancila to make it 2-0.
• Loyola Chicago got within a run in the top of the seventh as a wild pitch allowed Teagan Sopczak to score from third and bring the Ramblers to within 2-1with two outs
• Siler worked out of trouble as she got Sydney Barnett to fly out to end the contest.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Siler improved to 9-9 on the year as she allowed one earned run and struck out five in a complete-game victory.
• Fretz went 1-for-3 with a two-run double.
• Tauber was 1-for-1 with a run scored and two walks.
How It Happened - Game Two
• Loyola Chicago got on the board in the top of the second as Sopczak scored on a RBI single by Jocelyn Currie.
• The Ramblers extended their lead to 2-0 later in the second on a RBI single by Sierra Sass.
• Sydney Barnett connected on a solo home run in the top of the third to extend Loyola Chicago's lead to 3-0.
• A two-run double by Liz Sedakis made it 5-0 in the fifth.
• A two-run home run by
Sarah Cancila brought the Hawks to within 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
• The Ramblers added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh and retired the Hawks in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
• Cancila went 1-for-3 with her team-leading fourth home run.
• St. Joe's starter Taylor Trobridge moved to 9-9 on the season as she allowed three runs on six hits over 2.1 innings.
