DeSanto’s Gem Leads Baseball to 5-2 Win and Series Sweep of George Mason

MERION STATION, Pa. – Ryan DeSanto took a no-hitter into the ninth inning on Sunday as the Saint Joseph's baseball team finished off a series sweep with a 5-2 win over George Mason at Smithson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (23-23 overall, 11-10 Atlantic 10) took the lead in the bottom half of the second.  Justin Igoe ripped a one-out double, followed by a single from Tim Dickinson; Ryan Picollo then hit a no-doubt-about-it home run to left field for a 3-0 lead.

• The Hawks tacked on one more in the third as Ryan Cesarini laced a single to center that skipped past the fielder and allowed him to get to third base; Ryan Weingartner drove him in with a groundout to extend the lead to 4-0.  Dickinson then added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it a 5-0 game.

• DeSanto gave up a single to pinch hitter Reece Woody leading off the ninth and recorded one more out before making way for Alec Rodriguez amid a standing ovation from the Hawk fans in attendance.

• George Mason (20-30 overall, 6-15 Atlantic 10) put two on the board in the ninth, but Rodriguez induced a fly ball to end the game and complete the sweep.

• DeSanto dazzled on Sunday, finishing with eight and a third innings pitched, allowing one run on one hit, and nine strikeouts without a walk.

• Ryan Peterson allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in seven innings to take the loss.
