Men’s Soccer Falls to Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team dropped a contest to Rider on Monday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the Broncs at Ben Cohen Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The hosts jumped out to an early lead, grabbing the opener in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • St. Joe's responded immediately, creating a chance on their first attack as Tommaso Rossetto was brought down in the box after dribbling past his opponent. Blake Driehuis stepped up to the spot, guiding the ball into the right side and sending the keeper the wrong way to level the score in the 10th minute.
  • Rider was able to make mounting pressure pay off throughout the next 20 minutes, Breaking through with a quick interchange of passes to drive a shot low and into the near netting to regain their advantage.
  • Driehuis helped lead a counter but his shot fell safely into the goalkeeper's arms, Rider able to take their 2-1 lead into the break.
  • Rider were able to grab another quick goal out of the break, hitting an attempt outside the box one time with the left foot to curl into the near corner to extend its advantage to 3-1.
  • Kobe Perlaza nearly trimmed the deficit, curling a cross from the left side that deflected over the keeper and slammed into the crossbar before the hosts were able to clear.
  • The Broncs were able to keep the Hawks out of the net the rest of the half, walking off after 90 minutes with the 3-1 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Rider outshot Saint Joseph's by a 15-7 margin, but held just a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
