Saint Joseph's Athletics mourns the passing of Hall of Famer James "Jim" Murray '63.
A standout for the Saint Joseph's men's soccer teams of the early 1960s, Murray was a four-year letterwinner for the Hawks. Serving as a co-captain as a senior, Murray helped St. Joe's to a 9-1 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the MAC.
After graduation, Murray returned to his high school alma mater, St. Joseph's Prep, where he served as a teacher, department chair, dean of students, athletic director and soccer coach over a more than 40-year career. As a coach, Murray capped his tenure with 620 wins, the second-most all-time in state history, and garnered Coach of the Year honors three times.
Murray was inducted into the Saint Joseph's Men's Soccer Hall of Fame in 1998 and Saint Joseph's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. Additionally, he was honored with induction into the St. Joseph's Prep Hall of Excellence this past spring, and was selected to both the Pennsylvania Sports and Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Halls of Fame.
