#13 Field Hockey Puts Away #16 Penn State, 4-1

MERION STATION, Pa. – Four different Hawks tallied goals on Friday as the 13th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team turned in a dominating performance en route to a 4-1 win over #16 Penn State at Ellen Ryan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (2-1) controlled possession through the opening stanza, but could not turn it into an opening goal.  However, with less than four minutes remaining in the first half, the Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke and Lily Santi tucked it high in the corner for a 1-0 halftime lead.

• Penn State (0-3) struck quickly in the third quarter as Sophia Gladieux, the NCAA's career leader in goals scored among active players, added to her tally with a rebound goal just 29 seconds into the second half.

• Sol Borensztein put the Hawks back in front with a minute and a half to go in the frame, taking a pass from Manu Ghigliotti and beating PSU's Aby Deverka for a 2-1 lead.

• The Hawks poured it on in the fourth quarter, maintaining the majority of possession and cashing in through an Erika Culp goal on an assist from Santi with 5:19 to play.

• Julia Duffhuis scored her first goal as a Hawk to ice it, converting on a penalty corner with 2:36 to go on assists from Santi and Kate Crist.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Marith Bijkerk made two saves in the win, while Deverka made 10 stops for the Nittany Lions.

• Saint Joseph's held an overwhelming 22-4 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 mark in the second half, while also posting a 15-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
