AMHERST, Mass. – 11 three-pointers from the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team helped secure a 67-55 win over Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon inside the Mullins Center.
Laura Ziegler scored a game-high 23 points, securing 14 rebounds.
Gabby Casey tallied 12 points, while
Mackenzie Smith and
Rhian Stokes each added 11 points in the win.
Megan Olbrys finished with 21 points on 10-11 shooting, Yahmani McKayle the only other Minutewoman in double-digits with 11 points.
St. Joe's (14-4, 5-2 Atlantic 10) converted early and often from distance, making four of its first five three-pointers in the contest for an early lead. Massachusetts (9-9, 4-3 Atlantic 10) responded with a 7-2 run, leading by as many as four in the opening frame. The Hawks continued to find success from the perimeter,
Laura Ziegler capping off an 11-0 run to end the first half with a wide-open triple as time was expiring to give Saint Joseph's a 39-30 lead at the break.
After countering a three-point basket from the hosts to start the second half, the Hawks were able to keep the lead above nine until over two minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Mackenzie Smith quickly closed the door on any comeback opportunity after fighting through contact for an and-one to push the lead back to double-digits, maintaining the distance the rest of the way in a 67-55 win.

- Ziegler recorded her 13th double-double of the season with her 23 points and 14 rebounds, adding three assists and three steals in the win. Her 12 defensive rebounds add to her nation-leading 9.6 defensive rebounds per game.
- Casey knocked down a career-high three three-pointers, adding five rebounds and three assists.
- Stokes recorded her fourth game with double-digits, matching her career-high of three steals.
- The Hawks finished with 19 assists on 24 made field goals, all eight players recording an assist.
- The 11 three-pointers mark the second-most made on the season, only bested by 14 triples made against Syracuse (Nov. 10).
- St. Joe's outrebounded UMass, 39-33. The Hawks are 12-2 when outrebounding their opponent.
