Ziegler Sets Career-High as Women’s Basketball Dominates La Salle, 85-49

PHILADELPHIA – Laura Ziegler recorded a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with her game-high 22 points to help lead the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team to a dominant 85-49 display over La Salle inside John Glaser Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
Ziegler bested her previous-high of 16 rebounds set on four separate occasions, registering her 11th game in double-digit rebounding this season. Mackenzie Smith and Gabby Casey each scored 15 points on a combined 11-16 (68.8 percent) from the floor while Aleah Snead and Paula Maurina each chipped in eight points.
 
Ashleigh Connor led the Explorers with nine points and six rebounds. Alisa Blalock tallied seven points, while Jolene Armendariz finished with six points and six boards.
 
La Salle (7-9, 1-2 Atlantic 10) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but it would soon dissolve as the Hawks scored 22 of the next 24 points en route to a 20-point halftime lead.
 
Saint Joseph's (12-2, 3-0 Atlantic 10) kept its foot on the gas to start the third, shooting 70 percent over the quarter to extend its lead. The Hawks led by as many as 39 en route to the seventh-consecutive victory.
 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ziegler scored 14 of her 22 points in the first half, finishing the opening period one shy of a double-double. Ziegler recorded her 11th double-double of the season and 32nd of her career, moving her into a tie for second-most in program history with Teresa Carmichael.
  • The Denmark native surpassed Ciara Andrews, Melissa Coursey, Natasha Cloud and Amra Mehmedic to move into 25th in scoring at St. Joe's, while her 17 boards moved her into ninth in rebounding. Her two blocks on the day gave her sole possession of ninth in program history.
  • Smith's 15 points moved her two points shy of entering the top-10 in scoring in program history, while Talya Brugler's seven points puts her one shy of reaching 1,600 career points. Brugler's run of 16-consecutive games with double-digit scoring ended in the win.
  • Emma Boslet registered a team-high six assists, one of four Hawks with at least four assists on the afternoon – Kaylie Griffin (4), Casey (4), Brugler (4). As a team, the Hawks tied a season-high with 25 assists.
  • St. Joe's moved to seven-consecutive wins on the season and are now 54-16 all-time against the Explorers.
  • The 36-point win is the largest in the series since a 68-31 victory over the Explorers on February 20, 2013.
