MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to VCU, 1-0, at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to find the cage in the first half. The Hawks held the majority of possession and a 5-2 advantage in shots but couldn't turn it into a goal.

• Saint Joseph's (7-5 overall, 2-1 Atlantic 10) nearly went ahead early in the third but a pair of efforts fizzed just wide.

• VCU (8-3 overall, 3-0 Atlantic 10) would break through with 9:08 to go in the fourth quarter on a goal by Angelina Gondos on a penalty corner.

• The Hawks pressed for an equalizer but could not draw level before time expired.
