LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to seventh-ranked Liberty, 2-1, at Liberty Field Hockey Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half was even until Liberty (12-2) broke through for a pair of penalty goals late in the second quarter. Julieta Tornati opened the scoring for the Flames with 1:12 to go before Josefina Tomasi doubled the lead 49 seconds later.

• Neither team scored in the third but Saint Joseph's (7-8) broke through early in the fourth. On a penalty corner, the initial blast rocked the right post, but
Ava Smith was there for the rebound, firing low to beat the keeper and get the Hawks back within one.

• The Hawks would ratchet up the pressure in the final frame, collecting five shots and five penalty corners, but the Flames escaped with the victory.

Marith Bijkerk split duties in the cage for the Hawks, with Bijkerk making one save. Diane Saint Martin made two saves in the cage for Liberty.
