Field Hockey Seeded Third for Atlantic 10 Championship

10/31/2025 9:40:00 PM

WASHINGTON – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team earned the third seed for the 2025 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship and will meet second-seeded VCU in the semifinals on Thursday, November 6, at Richmond's Crenshaw Field.

The Hawks concluded the regular season on Friday at 9-9 with a 4-2 conference record after routing La Salle, 7-1, at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.  Saint Joseph's has won the last four consecutive Atlantic 10 tournament titles and appeared in the last nine conference championship games, winning seven of the last eight.  One of those titles came in the last tournament held at Crenshaw Field, when the top-seeded Hawks dispatched fourth-seeded Lock Haven and third-seeded Richmond in 2019.

VCU claimed a share of the A-10 regular season championship with a 5-1 conference record to go with a 13-4 overall mark.  The Rams visited Ellen Ryan Field on October 10 and came away with a 1-0 win for their first victory over the Hawks on Hawk Hill since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2012.  The teams last met in the postseason in 2022 when the Hawks earned a 2-1 win in the semifinals at UMass.  They also contested both of the league's title games in 2021, with the Rams winning at home in the spring and the Hawks winning at home in the fall.

Richmond finished the regular season 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10, sharing the regular season title with VCU but earning the top seed by virtue of a 2-1 double-overtime win over the Rams on Friday afternoon.  The Spiders topped the Hawks, 2-0, two weeks ago at Crenshaw Field; they last met in the postseason a year ago, when the Hawks drubbed the Spiders, 6-1, in the semifinals at Ellen Ryan Field.

Davidson punched its ticket to the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since 2015 with a 5-0 rout of Saint Louis on Friday night.  The Wildcats, currently 9-8 overall with one game remaining and finishing with a 3-3 conference record, visited Hawk Hill on October 24; the Hawks earned a 3-0 win to put themselves on the precipice of a tournament berth.  Saint Joseph's and Davidson have never met in the postseason.

Richmond and Davidson will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, with the Hawks and Rams facing off at 2:00 p.m.  The championship game is set for noon on Saturday, November 8.

Tickets for the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and those 12 and under.  All three games of the Championship will be streamed domestically on ESPN+ and internationally on the Atlantic 10 Network.
