PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team reached the 100-point mark for the first time in two years as the Hawks downed the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors, 100-61 on Tuesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jaiden Glover-Toscano and Jaden Smith topped the Hawks with 16 points apiece. It was a career-high for Smith, who added six rebounds.
- Derek Simpson scored 11 and had a season-high eight assists.
- Dasear Haskins and Deuce Jones II each tallied 10.
- Khaafiq Myers pulled in 12 rebounds and had six assists to go with four points.
- Al Amadou scored his first points in a Saint Joseph's uniform, netting six. Steven Solano also scored six points, playing six minutes.
- Will Lange tallied four. Billy Rayer connected on a shot from beyond the arc for his first career points.
- As a team, Saint Joseph's had more than 50 rebounds in a game for the first time since December 14, 2016 at Princeton.
- The Hawks hit 100 points for the first time in two years when they beat Stonehill 100-56 on November 14, 2023.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Joe's struggled to hold on to the ball in the early going as the Scarlet Raptors held a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game. SJU found its footing, scoring the next 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting, opening a 19-2 advantage with 13:08 remaining in the half.
- The Hawks pushed the lead to as many as 29 in the first half, shooting 64.5 percent through the opening 17 minutes before taking a 53-28 lead into the break.
- Saint Joseph's opened the second half, connecting on 5-of-7 shots, extending the lead to 71-32 at the 11:34 mark.
- As the contest moved on, role players were able to get extended playing time, contributing to 12 different players scoring for St. Joe's.
