Baseball Announces 2026 Schedule

12/19/2025 3:00:00 PM

Saint Joseph's baseball head coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the Hawks' schedule for the 2026 season, which gets underway at High Point on February 13.

"We are all looking forward to the season ahead," head coach Fritz Hamburg said in advance of his 18th season in the Hawk dugout.  "We return a lot of key guys from last year and certainly are excited with many of the new players that came in through the portal and as freshman.  We can't wait to get the season underway."

The Hawks will open the season in North Carolina with two games apiece against High Point and Elon.  Then comes a trip to California to take on Sacramento State from February 19 to 22 before the home opener at Smithson Field against Rutgers on Tuesday, February 24.

A visit to Wofford to close out February precedes a home game against Rider and pair of games at Bucknell to kick off March; the Hawks will then host Bucknell to finish the weekend series on March 8 before West Chester makes its first visit to Smithson Field on March 11.

"We have some quality matchups early in the year, with a weekend visit to High Point and Elon, then a trip west to Sacramento State; it will be our first trip back to the West Coast since 2019," Hamburg said.  "We head to Wofford in weekend three and then have a home-and-home series with Bucknell. I think our early-season matchups will provide different looks and help us to prepare for what we will see during the conference schedule."

The Atlantic 10 slate once again consists of 10 weekend series in 2026, and league play begins on March 13 as the Hawks head to Richmond; a quick trip to Delaware on March 17 leads into the first conference home series of the season March 20-22 against George Washington.  The Hawks then head to Navy for a midweek matchup before a trip to the Bronx to take on Fordham.

The Liberty Bell Classic returns to the schedule in 2026, with the Hawks hosting Lehigh on March 31 before taking on either Delaware or Rider at Smithson Field on April 7.  The championship game is set for April 21 at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the two-time reigning National League East champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Saint Louis visits Hawk Hill starting April 2 before the Hawks head to Dayton for a three-game set on April 10; George Mason then comes to Smithson Field for a weekend series beginning on April 17.  The Hawks will host Delaware on either April 21 or 22: if neither team is playing for the Liberty Bell Classic title, the game will be April 21; should one reach the final, the game will move to the 22nd.

Then, it's four consecutive Big 5 games as the Hawks make a trip across town to take on La Salle in its return season – the three-game series against the Explorers begins on April 24 – before visiting Villanova on April 28.

The Hawks open May with their final two home conference series, as St. Bonaventure arrives on May 1 and VCU one week later.  A trip to Rhode Island May 14-16 closes out the regular season for Saint Joseph's.

The 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship returns to Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia, and runs from May 20 through May 23.  The tournament format has changed for 2026, as the field will consist of the top six teams in the standings instead of the top seven.

"I believe the move to 10 conference weekends benefits everyone," Hamburg said.  "Obviously, there is a change in the conference tournament format this year moving from seven teams to six.  But as it is every year, our expectation is to be in a position to win the regular season championship and go compete in the tournament for an A-10 championship."
