Offense Breaks Out for Softball In Sunday Win Against Radford

LYNCHBURG, Va.Hailey Malito and Meghan Sinkus had three RBI each as the Saint Joseph's softball team won its final game at the Liberty Softball Classic, taking a 10-8 decision against the Radford Highlanders.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • In addition to their run production, Malito and Sinkus each had two hits and a walk in the game.
  • Sierra Fretz hit her second homer of the season.
  • Kayla Tauber and Kasi Loser had two hits apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The offense got off to a strong start as singles by Tauber and Sarah Cancila put runners on the corners to open the inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Malito and Sinkus played the opening runs of the contest.
  • After Radford scored one in the second, the Hawks' patience at the plate helped to extend the lead. SJU loaded the bases on a double and two hit batters before bases loaded walks to Malito, Sinkus and Riley York staked St. Joe's to a 5-1 advantage.
  • Three more runs came across in the third as a Fretz homer and a fielding error by the Highlanders continued to push the Hawks lead.
  • Radford battled back with four runs in the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Tauber singled and stole second. Malito came up and siungled Tauber home, while taking second herself on the throw. She stood there for Sinkus who knocked in her third run of the day, making it 10-5 SJU.
