DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team suffered defeat on the road on Wednesday evening, falling 74-65 to Dayton inside UD Arena.
Gabby Casey led the Hawks with a team-high 15 points, adding eight rebounds.
Aleah Snead added 14 points while Tayla Brugler finished with nine points, six rebounds and five assists.
Rikki Harris paced Dayton with a game-high 16 points. Jayda Johnson finished with 14 points on the night. Arianna Smith added 11 rebounds to her 13 points, while Nicole Stephens was the fourth Flyer in double-digits with 10 points.
Saint Joseph's (21-7, 12-5 Atlantic 10) opened the game with a barrage of threes, five different Hawks burying a triple to open the game on a 20-2 run. Dayton (16-12, 10-7 Atlantic 10) worked its way back in the game, Jayda Johnson drilling four threes in the first half to help the hosts overcome the deficit for a 38-35 halftime advantage.
The teams traded runs through the third quarter as the Hawks tallied nine-consecutive points to regain the lead. A 9-2 spurt from the Flyers in the third, along with an 13-0 run that spanned between the third and fourth quarter, built the host's advantage to as many as 14 points. The Hawks were unable to trim the deficit enough to launch a comeback, falling 74-65.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Talya Brugler surpassed Katie Curry (1988-93) for fourth in scoring in program history. Curry had 1,663. Teresa Carmichael has 1,681.
- Laura Ziegler tallied two blocks to move her to sixth all-time in program history in blocked shots. The junior was held to six points, just the second time all season that Ziegler recorded fewer than 10 points.
- St. Joe's finished 25-65 from the field, shooting 38.5% from the floor. The Flyers knocked down 29 of their 58 attempts to finish at 50 percent.
- The Hawks made 10 three pointers on 31 attempts (32.3%). The 31 attempts mark the most since two seasons ago, also against Dayton, when St. Joe's went 11-32 from distance. It is just the seventh time in program history that the Hawks attempted at least 30 three pointers.
- Dayton converted its 13 offensive rebounds for 26 points, holding a 26-14 advantage in second chance points.
