Men's Basketball Finds Shooting Stroke to Down Saint Louis

PHILADELPHIAErik Reynolds II scored 25 points to move into third place on the Hawks career scoring list as the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team defeated the Saint Louis Billikens 76-63 on Friday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Reynolds ended the game with 1,990 career points, passing Bernard Blunt on the St. Joe's career scoring list thanks to his 10-for-15 performance from the floor while connecting on five three-pointers.
  • The Temple Hills, Md. native also joined an exclusive club as the game was his 100th contest in double figure scoring. He is one of 10 active Division I players to reach the mark and is one of two to have accomplished the feat in four years.
  • Xzayvier Brown had 20 with nine rebounds and five assists. He also came away with two steals. 15 of his points came in the second half.
  • Rasheer Fleming netted 11 with seven boards and four blocks.
  • Coming off the bench for the first time this season, Derek Simpson provided a spark with nine points, eight caroms and four assists.
  • St. Joe's pulled in 14 offensive rebounds, the third time this season it has grabbed at least 14 O-boards.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was an evenly matched game to start with the Hawks holding a 16-15 lead nine minutes into the contest. Reynolds ignited the SJU offense early with nine quick points.
  • A cold stretch followed for St. Joe's who saw the Billikens go on a 17-4 run, on their way to a 30-20 lead with 4:56 to go in the frame.
  • Showing their mettle, Saint Joseph's clawed back, scoring the final 12 points of the frame, taking a 32-30 lead into the break.
  • Opening the second stanza, the Hawks continued to push the pace, starting on a 11-4 run to create a 41-34 advantage less than three minutes in.
  • Saint Joseph's eventually built the lead out to as many as 12 before Saint Louis began to work its way back into the contest, cutting the lead to 53-51 with 8:08 to play.
  • Withstanding the Billikens' push, the Hawks closed the game on a 23-12 run, making their final eight shots in the contest.

St. Joe's takes to the court again on Wednesday, February 12 when it hosts city rival La Salle. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game on ESPN+.
