Taylor Trowbridge threw a two-hitter in the second game of the day for the Saint Joseph's softball team, leading the Hawks to a 2-0 win against the Mercer Bears on Friday afternoon. It was a two win day for SJU, which downed Austin Peay 5-2 in the first game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST AUSTIN PEAY
- Scoreless into the third, the Hawks jumped ahead in the top of the inning. With one out, Hailey Peterson doubled in her first collegiate at-bat and moved to third on a single by Loser.
- Tauber came up and laced a double to left-center, bringing Peterson across the plate and moving Loser to third.
- A wild pitch scored Loser and advanced Tauber 90 feet before she scored on an RBI groundout from Cancila, making it 3-0 SJU.
- After threatening in the bottom of the third, the Governors put a pair on the board in the fourth, but Jules Scogna was able to shut the door, getting a groundout to strand the tying run on third base.
- Saint Joseph's got one of the runs back in the sixth. Currie was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Meghan Sinkus replaces her at first on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Fretz followed with a single to left, plating Sinkus for a 4-2 Hawks' lead.
- An insurance run came on the board in the seventh as a walk by Kasi Loser, a single from Cancila and a double steal put runners on second and third for Haley Mailto, who drove in Loser on a groundout.
- Scogna got the win, striking out three in four innings. Marla Freiwald tossed three scoreless in her Hawks' debut for the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MERCER
- A pitcher's duel, game two was scoreless into the sixth inning when St. Joe's broke through. Hailey Malito led off with a walk, followed by a single from Currie.
- The Hawks engineered a successful double steal. On the throw down, the ball was bobbled, allowing Malito to score.
- After a single by Sinkus moved Currie to third, Fretz delivered a hit to left, plating Currie for a 2-0 SJU edge.
- That was plenty enough for Trowbridge, who authored a two-hit shutout, striking out three.
