Fleming Scores 1,000th Career Point as Hawks Down Rams

BRONX, N.Y.Rasheer Fleming became the 60th player in Saint Joseph's men's basketball history with 1,000 career points as the Hawks won their fourth in a row, downing the Fordham Rams 90-76 on Saturday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Fleming posted 20 in the contest, with 17th of which was his 1K bucket. He had a big game overall with eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
  • Xzayvier Brown netted a season-high 27 in the contest with six boards and five assists.
  • Erik Reynolds II tallied 17 and came away with three steals.
  • Anthony Finkley had a personal best with 15 points and pulled in seven caroms.
  • Justice Ajogbor had rejected a season-high tying five shots in the contest. He added six points and
  • SJU held Fordham to 28.2 percent shooting in the second half.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams got off to a strong start from the floor as more than 40 combined points were scored by the second media timeout with the Hawks leading 25-19 with 11:36 to go in the first half.
  • The Rams came back in a big way, scoring 16 of the next 20 points in just four minutes, opening their largest lead at that point, 35-29 with 7:40 remaining.
  • Fordham eventually pushed out to an eight-point edge, before a 10-2 run for SJU knotted the score at 45-45 with less than a minutes remaining. The Rams came away with a pair of free throws as Fordham took a 47-45 edge into intermission.
  • Coming out in the second half, the Hawks wasted no time in erasing the lead as St. Joe's opened on an 8-0 run to go up 53-47 in less than three minutes.
  • The Rams whittled the lead to three before a 14-6 run by Saint Joseph's took the lead up to 67-56 at the 9:39 mark.
  • Fleming netted his milestone during the span with an alley oop dunk that put SJU up nine.
  • After the brief run by the Rams, St. Joe's was able to maintain the advantage at the free throw line to close the game.
